Fun in the sun.

We had a wonderful time with the family during our stay at the Deer Creek State Park resort. There was on average 30 of us together every day for the week. And to quote my youngest son, "I loved every minute with our family at Deer Creek".

Not only was it a perfect week of fun in the sun but the training for my half ironman was the perfect getaway place to train.

Grandma enjoying her 5 generation heritage.

My in-laws with the grand kids, including my 4 kids.

Biking on the country roads.

Swimming in Deer Creek Lake.

Saddled up to ride off into the sunset.

I now am in my final 6 weeks of training for the half ironman triathlon which is 4 weeks of speed/quality phase and then 2 weeks of taper. The schedule is not a very heavy load but it sure feels like it at the home front. My wife expresses with emotion that she is not happy with all "my time" of training and that it is all about ME. Boy, do I have to be careful when choosing the right time to take off for a 2 to 3 hour workout. I am including the family to bike along while I run my long runs, and we all have a great time.
The next 4 weeks look like I'll be swimming about 1000 meters and running 12 miles on Saturdays. On Sundays I need to bike 50 miles then go for a 20 to 30 minute run. If I can survive these next 4 weeks I'll be ready for that half ironman.

Heh. Mrp runs too, but sometimes my training demands get on his nerves. Our loved ones just want to make sure they're number one in our lives and that's a good thing!!

Sounds like the training is going great and I'm glad you had a wonderful time with your family!!

First: five generations, wowzaas! It looked like a nice family trip. And a nice place to swim.

All the best on your 1/2IM training. I look forward to hearing about the final results (and, perhaps, not being such a wimp and getting to do one someday as well!).

Sounds like a great time! Triathlon is a very selfish sport. It's got to be 'all about you' if you want to complete one, let alone do well. None the less it's tough for a spouse. It can get old defining every race as a 'mini vacation' (which it's not). I think every athlete should sit through a long race to appreciate what their spouses and family do to support them. Train hard and take care of the Mrs. !! ;)

Fantastic family photos - you are blessed to be part of such a large family.

Mrs Nitrox is getting upset with my training time too - and I am only doing 8 hrs per week. Thankfully, I am already in taper so I have a bit more time now. :-)

Can you share your taper plans? I have no idea what I should be doing, but I am pretty sure it is not sitting around and getting fat (which seems to be what I am doing).

Keep training hard but don't lose sleep over a missed workout here and there. I've seen you in action plenty of times over the past 2 years and know for sure that you could do a 1/2-Iron in your sleep! You're in fantastic shape.

Great pics, Papa. Best wishes in getting the next four weeks of training done. After that, you'll be ready for you HIM, I'm sure.

Stay tuned...
